In 2024, Storm Hans hit Norway, causing around €113 million in damages—and loss of life.

To make matters worse, Hans was quickly followed by several smaller storms, compounding the damage before the country had had time to recover.

In our new and unpredictable reality, this is becoming an increasingly familiar story. But most local governments still lack the detailed, actionable data they need to adapt and prepare for events like this.

That’s why the Impetus4Change project is working to make high-resolution, city-specific climate forecasts possible—and available to all.

To find out more, we caught up with Project Coordinator Stefan Sobolowski of the Norwegian Research Centre (NORCE) and Bjerknes Center for Climate Research. He told us how they’re developing advanced digital tools that enable high-resolution analysis—without the prohibitive costs that put it out of reach of many stakeholders.
