Reliable climate science is critical to all adaptation and mitigation efforts and plays a key role in shaping local and European policies and actions. Decision-makers, businesses, communities and individuals need reliable evidence-based insights into climate change impacts and potential solutions to take informed decisions.

EU-funded research projects – and citizens – play a key role in gathering and analysing those insights.

Here are just a few examples:

ClimTIP analyses climate tipping points to create predictive models that shed light on the impact of climate change on agriculture, forestry, society and economies. The aim is to gather relevant information for policy-makers on the potential for mitigation and adaptation.

EERIE studies the ocean to develop better predictive climate models that enable policymakers, businesses, and climate stakeholders to make more informed decisions about how to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

CirEUlar analyses material-intensive sectors like industry and buildings to understand the potential for transformation to circular economies, reducing CO2 emissions and mitigating climate change. For example, through actions like transition to service-based economies, lifetime extension of stocks through maintenance, recycling and reuse, etc.

I-CHANGE empowers people to participate in citizen science initiatives through its ‘living labs’ in key cities throughout Europe and Africa. As well as gathering essential data to improve our understanding of climate change impacts – and how we can adapt – the aim is to encourage behavioural change like shifts towards more sustainable lifestyles.

GreenInCities uses advanced digital technology, neuroscience insights and nature-based solutions like urban greenspace to create healthier, more resilient urban spaces. The goal is to create cities that adapt to the needs of both people and nature, actively promoting climate adaptation and resilience.

LOCALISED enables local areas to deal with their unique climate challenges by creating tailored plans and solutions for climate resilience using innovative digital tools to gather local data. These plans help local businesses and communities adapt to climate change and reduce their carbon footprint.
